I get asked a lot if I continue to do my workouts now that I am pregnant. Absolutely I do! With my first pregnancy I did a lot of running; my second pregnanc,y I taught Turbo Kick and lifted weights; now with my third pregnancy, I still do my Turbo workouts (modifying as needed) and lifting program. Of course, I have been cleared by my doctor to continue on with my exercise regimen. I still love how exercising makes me feel even during my pregnancies. There are benefits to working out during pregnancy and I was going to talk about a few of them.
*Improving Self Image: Exercising during your pregnancy releases endorphins that help you feel good even when the scale is increasing. Working out can help you to stay within the recommended weight requirement for pregnancy.
*Reducing stress: This is a very exciting time but it can also leave you feeling overwhelmed and anxious. Finding healthy ways to reduce this stress such as a walk, jog or light stretching can help you feel a little more light hearted. Our hormones are going crazy the way it is, we need to find healthy ways to keep ourselves in check!
*Energy Booster: Keeping with a regular exercise routine can help you get through your daily tasks. Exercise increased your endurance and strengthens your cardiovascular system so you don’t get as tired so quickly. Also having strong muscles will help you to put out less effort in your daily activities. As long as your doctor or midwife permits, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), it is perfectly fine to take part in 30 min of light-moderate exercise given you don’t have any restrictions.
*Preparing for Childbirth: Being in good physical condition can help you to have better stamina for labor and delivery.
*Getting your Pre Baby Body Back: I know this is HUGE motivation for myself! By maintaining your strength and muscle tone, this will help your body to better bounce back after baby. Also by keeping up with your exercise regimen and keeping off the extra pounds, it will be less work to lose those pregnancy weight.
I also love to keep up my workout routine during pregnancy as my kids are still watching me. I am still able to be an example to them as well as people around me. I am not going to let being pregnant be an excuse, I am going to let it be my motivation! I just have to do it with some modifications! 🙂
